THIS IS A ROSEWOOD SHELL COLUMN SHELF CLOCK MADE BY SETH THOMAS IN THOMASTON, CT, CIRCA 1866-1875. THE CASE IS ROSEWOOD VENEERED AND HAS SHELL COLUMNS WITH GILT CAPS AND BASES. THE PAINTED DIAL IS SQUARE AND HAS ROMAN NUMERAL WITH FRUIT DECORATIONS IN THE CORNERS, THE DIAL WAS RESTORED BY THE DIAL HOUSE. THE LOWER DOOR GLASS TABLET IS ORIGINAL AND REVERSE PAINTED WITH ROSES. THE 8 DAY WEIGHT DRIVEN MOVEMENT IS TIME AND HOUR STRIKE ON A COILED GONG AND HAD AN ALARM MECHANISM ORIGINALLY THAT IS NOW MISSING. THERE IS A NICE LABEL BEHIND THE DOOR THAT STATES SETH THOMAS, THOMASTON, CONN, HOWEVER THE MOVEMENT IS STAMPED SETH THOMAS, PLYMOUTH, SO THIS APPEARS TO BE A CROSS OVER CLOCK THAT WAS ASSEMBLED JUST AFTER THE CIVIL WAR.
