ENGLISH BRACKET STYLE CLOCK BY "ELLICOTT & SMITH" CIRCA 1830-1840. ELLICOTT WAS ELECTED TO THE ROYAL SOCIETY, HE WAS FURTHER HONORED AS CLOCKMAKER TO KING GEORGE III (1738-1820). ELLICOTT AND SMITH WAS ESTABLISHED 1830. JOHN ELLICOTT BECAME A CLOCKMAKER AFTER IS FATHER AND THEY WERE KNOWN FOR THEIR FINE HIGH QUALITY CLOCKS.

THE CASE IS ROSEWOOD AND ROSEWOOD VENEER. THE CASE HAS SUN RAYS CARVINGS ON THE TOP OF THE DOOR; ONE ON EACH SIDE OF THE ARCHED DOOR. THERE ARE 5 WOOD BALL FINIALS ON THE TOP OF THE CASE ( ONE ON EACH CORNER AND ONE ON THE TOP). THE CLOCK SITS ON 4 CARVED FEET. THE DOOR IS ARCHED AND HAS BRASS FRAMING ON THE INSIDE. THE ARCHED DIAL IS SILVERED AND HAS ROMAN NUMERALS, THERE ARE 2 SUB DIALS IN THE DIAL ARCH; ONE FOR REGULATION AND THE OTHER FOR SILENT/STRIKE. THE DIAL IS SIGNED "ELLICOTT & SMITH, ROYAL EXCHANGE, LONDON".

THERE ARE PIERCED BRASS, CLOTH BACKED WINDOWS ON THE SIDES OF THE CASE.

THE 8 DAY MOVEMENT IS A DOUBLE CHAIN FUSEE THAT STRIKES THE HOURS ON A BELL. THE MOVEMENT IS ALSO SIGNED "ELLICOTT & SMITH, LONDON".

ELLICOTT IS SAID TO HAVE BEEN ONE OF THREE OF THE FINEST CLOCKMAKER'S TO HAVE EVER EXISTED
